Artist Jaap Hartman

Jaap Hartman(1950, Netherlands) is a sculptor and bronze caster and a graduate of the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts and the Rijks Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. His professional training laid the foundation for his artistic development and technical expertise in casting. In Rotterdam he was taught by Arie Teeuwissen (sculpture) and Gijs Voskuyl (drawing). Hartman studied sculpture in Amsterdam, under the renowned professors, Paul Gregoire and Peter Esser. His figurative sculptures show that he is faithful to the basic spatial concepts with sculpture. Portraits are an important subject for him. Hartman works from the inside where the form gradually takes shape; this is a slow process to build up layer by layer until it reaches the outer skin. Once this is achieved, the image takes the final form and expression. Then comes the technically complex phase of making the mold and the casting and finishing work on the sculpture such as the patina. Jaap Hartman as bronze caster and sculptor is an obvious master of the entire process of creating beauty and thought out of metal. Please contact us for additional artworks of the artist
